Welcome Charlie
We are delighted to announce that Charlie Mackenzie has been appointed to the role of District Youth Commissioner and will officially take over from Jack Brooker at this years St Georges Day Celebration.
My name is Charlie and I am the new District Youth Commissioner for Northampton District Scouts. Having grown up as a Beaver and Cub in Northampton and later as a Scout, Explorer and Young Leader in Cyprus, Scouting has played a huge part in my life. With opportunities aboard, volunteering at international scout centres and taking on leading a Cub Pack here in Northampton, I am always looking for new exciting challenges that I can take on where I will be able to benefit young people within our District.
As your new District Youth Commissioner I hope to keep this role active and prominent, implementing changes to the role and the Youth Team as a whole (which hopefully many of you will have been able to experience first hand already over the last few months during our Youth Team Visits) so that the quality of delivery and support in Youth Shaped Scouting in Northampton is of the highest standard.
A new development plan for Youth Shaped Scouting in our District is at the forefront for my plans as DYC, a plan that is clear and simple, meaning that everyone in the district is on the same page when it comes to understanding the role of the DYC and the District Youth team.
Over the next 18 months I aim to complete the following:
- A restructure of the District Youth Team with the aim of clear roles for Deputy District Youth Commissioners, more specifically DDYCs for both Programme and People.
 - The Development of easy access Youth Shaped Resources for all members of the District.
 - A relaunch of E.L.I.T.E (Explorers Leading Innovation Towards Excellence) with the aim of presenting young people the opportunity to have a further impact on Scouting within the District.
 - The delivery of a District wide Activity day lead and inspired by the ideas and feedback of young people of the District.
 - Development of an in District Youth Shaped Award that celebrates the efforts of sections and groups who actively set out to provide Youth Shaped opportunities to it’s members.

I believe that it is essential to have an open communication between the District and its members. In order to commit to a clear communication of my work as your DYC, a monthly blog post will be posted so that you can keep up to date with my work, and be able to ask further questions about what you read, should you have any.
I look forward to working with you all over the coming months and showing you the progress we make as a district with youth shaped Scouting.
