Merry Christmas and Thank You

Date: 22nd Dec 2020 Author: Craig Kidd

2020 has been a year like no other.

As we look forward to 2021, and reflect on the past twelve months there is so much I could say, but it’s really important I say thank you to each and every one of you for everything you have done to keep Scouting  going over this year.  This gratitude must also be extended to your families who have supported you and enabled you to supporting Scouting, in the way you have over this period.

There can be no better measure of the value of Scouting or the quality of our volunteers, than the achievements and contribution that every single member of our District has made over the past nine months, in a year of such change and such challenge, it  is quite extraordinary , Thank you.

This is sure to be a holiday season of intensely mixed emotions, and may not bring the usual celebrations that we are used to at this time of year.  For many we might not get to spend it with extended families or our friends, however I hope you all get some time to take a thoroughly deserved rest, enjoy some calm, and be thankful for everything that you have.

Many of us might also find Christmas difficult this year.  It’s important that we remember it’s ok to feel like this,  it is essential we all look after our mental health.  If you, or someone you know needs some support then Mind have some excellent resources aimed at supporting us over Christmas on their website.

Unfortunately the end of 2020 doesn’t being an end to the pandemic, however the news certainly seems to give us some hope for getting closer to normality by Spring.  I am sure the early part of the year will bring its own challenges, but having seen what we’ve achieved this year I am confident that if you stick with it, keep doing what you do best, keep engaging with our young people and keep supporting each other then together we will all emerge stronger, more resilient and a better movement than we were before.

I know that when I get back to face to face Scouting, and can get out to Groups again to see you all, I will treasure the friendships greater, I will work harder to help you deliver longer lasting memories, and I will appreciate all that I have, and all that you do as part of this amazing movement.

Stay safe till we can call all meet again,

Merry Christmas and a Hopeful New Year
