Another exciting month for the Youth Team as we are getting closer to the end of the Scouting year! We only go from strength to strength!

Firstly, I would like to welcome Emma Hill to the team! Emma has stepped into the role as Deputy District Youth Commissioner (Programme) and will be in charge of all things engaging and activity based. I look forward to all the original and exciting youth shaped programme ideas she will bring us all, helping to reshape the youth forums we deliver.

As well as our usual well received visits to groups, June was also the first of two other firsts! During this years District Cub Camp at Overstone Scout Activity Centre we had a Youth Forum Base being ran by Young Leaders of the District who did an absolutely excellent job in doing so. This was the first time we have provided something like this and was well received by the young people and we have we have learnt so much so that we can continue to improve this for the next event!

June was also the first ever E.L.I.T.E. session. It was great to finally get things running after months of thinking and dreaming of how we can make it work. Lots of new ideas were generated for E.L.I.T.E. to work on moving forwards, and in particular, they helped us shape the new ‘Youth Involvement Recognition Award’ which will be launching in September in order to recognise those Groups and Sections which actively encourage and carry out an active Youth Shaped programme.

In July we are looking forward to hosting our Youth Shaped base at the #TogetherWeCan District Skills weekend to provide advice and support in delivering Youth Shaped programmes, and using the summer to develop new resources so we can continue to increase the quality of the Youth Shaped programme in the District.

Cheers,
