Distirct Nights Away Assessment Weekend

Date: 24th Jun 2019 Author: Gary Jackson

A Nights Away Permit Assessment Weekend is being organised at Overstone Scout Campsite and Activity Centre during the weekend of 27th-29th September 2019 to give Leaders from all Sections in the District the opportunity to gain their Nights Away Permit.

A Nights Away Permit allows you to lead nights away events for young people within Scouting. It shows people in Scouting, the young people and their parents that you have the necessary skills and experience to be able to lead these important events.

How will this weekend work?

  • You will be required to fully plan, organise and run a nights away experiences for at least 6 members of your Section, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts. It will be held at Overstone Scout Campsite and Activity Centre, for either one or two nights, during the weekend of 27th-29th September 2019.
  • You will be required to complete a Nights Away Application Form which will show your past experience .
  • During the weekend there will be a number of Nights Away Assessors on Site who will work with you to assess the following 4 areas:-
    • Technical Competence
    • Knowledge of Scout Association Rules for Nights Away
    • Child Protection
    • Personal Suitability
  • Once you have been assessed the Nights Away Assessor will issue a recommendation for the level of permit they believe your skills and experience are capable of fulfilling, which will subsequently be approved by the District Commissioner.
